Memphis Bound Competition

Every Year the Blues Society Of The Ozarks sponsors a number of great events. These are some of the ways we help increase the Blues fan base in the area. Isn't that what it's all about - more people enjoying the Blues? Make sure to mark your calendars because you don't want to miss out on these opportunities to have a bluesin' good time and support the BSO.

Want to get involved? Just contact us if there's any event you would like to help out on.

For our first yearly event, The BSO sponsors a "Blues In The Schools" (BITS) program to help expose young people in the area to Blues music. This is the third year we have hosted Harmonica classes for the Missouri Dept. of Youth Services. The students will consist of 12 young men between the ages of 12 and 17 from 3 DYS  facilities in Springfield - The Wilson Creek Group Home, The Community Learning Center and Datema House. The instructors will be George Hunt, Andy Collins, Mike Wallace and guitarist Jon Marks. The students will graduate at our April Picnic with a performance to follow. The BITS committee is headed by BSO members Mike and Kendra Wallace.

Enjoy an afternoon of Family Fun, Good Food and Great Music with the BSO every 3rd Sunday of the month from April through October. Join us at our new, more convenient picnic location, American Legion Post 639 (2660 South Scenic). Each jam is hosted by a local band and starts at 1:00 so bring your instrument if you want to join in or just come out and listen to some kickin’ Blues. There's always good food at the potluck picnic (bring a side dish if you want to partake). Get in on the raffles and win some cool blues merchandise or cold hard cash. And, the Post has plenty of shade under the big tent, an upgraded stage and new play area for the kids, so bring the family. The Picnic committee is headed by BSO member Frank Rayman.

The Greater Ozarks Blues Festival

Are you ready for the biggest Blues Blast of the year to hit the Springfield area? The Greater Ozarks Blues Festival brings some of the best national touring and local acts together for one amazing weekend of Blues. This is the largest event that the BSO participates in all year and this time the BSO is now the sole owner of the festival! The line-up is great and so is the location, Chesterfield Village. For more info mation on the Greater Ozarks Blues Festival, visit the Festival Website or the Festival Facebook Fan Page. Want a day full of bikes, blues, bands and beverages? Then our Rumble The Blues Away Concert and Poker Run is for you! Every year we sponsor this event to help provide funds for our Blues In The Schools program. For those who ride, the day starts with a poker run that ends up at the club where the concert is at. For those who don't ride, come on out and enjoy an afternoon of awesome blues - all for a great cause! Detail on this year's event will be announced at a later date.

One of the biggest blues events of the year is the International Blues Challenge (IBC) held in Memphis. Bands representing blues societies from the US and all over the globe compete to be picked the best in two categories, Group and Solo/Duo. Our last blues blast of the year is our Jingle The Blues Away concert. This party has evolved into a Blues Society Of The Ozarks membership drive and seasonal celebration. Treat yourself to an afternoon of great blues from some of the area's favorite bands. And while you're at it, bring a friend or two and introduce them to the fun and fellowship that the BSO has to offer and help our member base grow! As they say, the more the merrier. More details coming later.
